The Grove Roanoke River Red is a majority Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc based blend resulting in an everyday dry red table wine. Grapes come from both our estate vineyards in North Carolina as well as our award winning, old vine, Vista Ridge Vineyard near Smith Mountain, Virginia.
The current 2010 blend was bottled on 8/1/2011 and contains: - 58% Cabernet Sauvignon - 38% Cabernet Franc - 3% Nebbiolo - 1% Malbec
The wine is named for the Roanoke (Staunton) River with headwaters in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwestern Virginia. The river later tracks the NC/VA border finally emptying into the Albemarle Sound. The Roanoke River makes up Smith Mountain, Leesville, Kerr, Gaston and Roanoke Rapids lakes. So perhaps this is the perfect glass of wine to enjoy lakeside with a burger on one of these lakes.
- The 2010 Roanoke River Red won a gold medal in the 2011 Mid-Atlantic Southeastern Wine Competition and medaled in the 2011 North Carolina Wine Competition.
